Q. Am I a good candidate for vaginal rejuvenation?
A. The vagina is an elastic, muscular canal, and childbirth, weight loss, aging or previous surgeries can cause vaginal muscles to weaken or result in structural changes. If your vagina has changed or stretched over time or you’re uncomfortable with the size and shape of your labia, vaginal rejuvenation may help. Candidates for feminine rejuvenation may experience soreness, pain or reduced sensation during intercourse or may be troubled by the appearance of their labia or vulva. Vaginal rejuvenation candidates should be in good overall health and gone at least 12 months without giving birth.
Q. Can vaginal rejuvenation be combined with other cosmetic surgical procedures?
A. Vaginal rejuvenation can be safely combined with other cosmetic procedures. In fact, it’s quite common for women who are having a mommy makeover to add feminine rejuvenation to their procedure.
Q. Will vaginal rejuvenation enhance my sex life?
A. Vaginal rejuvenation tightens the muscles of the vaginal canal, improves genital appearance and boosts confidence. Each of these factors plays an important role in your sexual satisfaction. By tightening the vagina, you and your partner should experience increased friction and sensation during intercourse that can enhance your pleasure. Feeling more confident about how your vulva looks can also help you to better enjoy sex.
Q. What is the cost of vaginal rejuvenation?
A. The average cost range of a vaginal rejuvenation procedure is between $4000 and $8000. The cost may vary depending on the individual treatment. Factors that will contribute to the total cost of your treatment will include the Surgeon fee, OR/Facility Fee, any post-surgical garments, post-operative follow-up visits and any medication needed.
Q. Is vaginal rejuvenation covered by insurance?
A. Check with your individual insurance plan. Sometimes insurance may cover the procedure. Our practice does not accept insurance, however, you may request documents from our office staff and submit a claim through your individual insurance.
Q. How long will my surgery take?
A. Vaginal rejuvenation surgery typically takes 1 to 2 hours. It can be done using local or general anesthesia. If feminine rejuvenation is combined with other cosmetic surgeries, such as in a mommy makeover, the combined procedure can take longer. Vaginal rejuvenation is an outpatient procedure so you can return home after your procedure to rest comfortably.
Q. Will I have scars?
A. Any incisions made to restore the vaginal canal will be hidden inside the vagina and will not be visible. For women who are having their labia reshaped, the incisions are very small and are typically not noticeable once they’ve healed. This is because the natural appearance of the labia allows scars to easily blend in with the surrounding skin.
Q. What should I expect during my recovery?
A. Following vaginal rejuvenation, some swelling and soreness is to be expected. Discomfort can be managed with medication, ice packs and rest, with the majority of the swelling subsiding within several days to 1 week. Most women are able to return to work within 1 week. Pelvic rest is important for an optimal recovery, so women should avoid anything that puts pressure on the vagina or labia for 6 weeks. Intercourse, tampon use and vigorous exercise including cycling, horseback riding, motorcycle use, and related activities should be avoided during this recovery period.
Q. How long before I experience results?
A. It typically takes around 6 weeks for women to experience the full results of vaginal rejuvenation. Many women experience long-lasting or even lifelong results from their feminine rejuvenation.
