Hyaluronic acids such as Juvederm and Restylane are typically used for jawline contouring. The injector injects the filler in front of your ear, along the mandible, and some work around the chin. In addition to the fillers, your injector may choose to inject BOTOX® or DYSPORT® into the masseter muscle. This is a great addition to hyaluronic acid filler in order to really slim down the lower part of the face, giving one a chiseled and more defined look.

This procedure is done by injecting hyaluronic filler into the jawline, mandible, and chin in order to make those areas pop and look more prominent. The result is a more defined jaw and chin line.

The whole procedure takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Sometimes we may ask you to space out the filler in a few sessions in order to see how the product heals. That way we can see how things progress when the swelling goes down.

Yes, this treatment is completely safe if you see an experienced and certified cosmetic injector who is familiar with facial anatomy. If for any reason the patient does not like the final result, your injector can dissolve the filler with hyaluronidase (Hyalase).

Most people find this procedure tolerable with very little pain or discomfort. We numb patients with lidocaine or ice prior to the injection to help minimize discomfort. 

Jawline contouring using neuromodulators typically lasts from 6 to 8 months. Every patient is different so the result may last longer or shorter depending on how your body metabolizes the injected filler.

This procedure is not permanent, and the treated muscle can return to normal after 3-4 months if left untreated. However, there has been evidence that after multiple treatments there may be permanent changes in the masseter muscle and possibly the jaw bone where the muscle attaches.
