One of the choices your surgeon must make for your rhinoplasty procedure is between the open and the closed technique. Both of these methods come along with their own pros and cons.
Open Rhinoplasty: Greater Access for Precision
The open rhinoplasty technique offers surgeons a great deal of access to the various internal structures of the nose during nasal surgery, including the nasal cartilage, bones, and soft tissues. To utilize this technique, the surgeon makes a tiny incision across the patient’s columella (the outer nasal skin separating the nostrils). The skin is then lifted.
Closed Rhinoplasty: Less Invasive, Faster Healing
The closed rhinoplasty technique, which is not utilized as often as the open technique, offers less access but is not as invasive. During this, the surgeon creates one or more incisions within the inner nostrils. Any post-operative marks are hidden inside the nostrils.
