Stretch Marks Form?

Chances are you will get some stretch marks at some point in your life – and this is perfectly normal! Stretch marks are in fact small tears in the dermal (deeper) layer of the skin which result in linear scars. The long scars are areas where the tissue has torn and separated become visible because the skin in that area is a different thickness. The most common areas stretch marks appear is on the stomach, thighs, buttocks, waist, and arms.

If you have significant stretch marks in the abdominal area and loose skin, you may be a good candidate for a skin excision procedure such as a tummy tuck, which is guaranteed to remove stretch marks.

Stretch marks are found in the deep layer of the skin, laser stretch mark treatment is recommended because it has the ability to penetrate the skin deep enough in order to be effective.

Most advertised stretch mark removal treatments are creams and lotions that only work on the surface of the skin and usually cannot penetrate the dermal layer to have any significant effect.

Skin rollers and massagers can temporarily improve the appearance of stretch marks due to the swelling they cause but do not address the underlying issue.

An alternative treatment that we may recommend is the Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling treatment for those who have skin laxity and stretch marks from prior pregnancies for example. The Morpheus8 has the added benefit of skin tightening.
