How Does the S-Lift Differ from a Normal Facelift?

It is a minimally invasive technique, as the incision made is very small compared to that of the normal facelift. The skin is lifted up only until the ear and not above that, unlike in a traditional facelift, where the skin over the forehead, brow, and cheeks is lifted up, too.
Recovery is also a lot faster with the S-lift technique, since the incision made is much smaller and since the procedure is less invasive.
The Procedure
After anesthesia is administered, the incision is created. The procedure is called the S-lift because of the shape of the incision used. It starts off from behind the patient’s ear and goes all the way down to the neck, looking like a reverse S.
Once the incision is made, the skin flap is elevated carefully. The SMAS layer of the skin is identified and then elevated upwards. It is held in its new position with the help of stitches. Any excess skin over and above the SMAS is removed, and the main incision is closed with the help of stitches.
Since the incision made is so small and is hardly even visible, patients can get back to their normal routine within a few days. Due to the shorter recovery period, the S-lift is also referred to as the weekend facelift.
